Andrew J. Gormley, 93, of Jacksonville, FL passed away May 18, 2017. “Andy” Gormley left us peacefully at Community Hospice, Jacksonville. Born in Derry, Ireland on March 31, 1924 the son of the late Andrew and Bridget (Sharkey) Gormley. He is also preceded in death by his brother Hugh Gormley.

Andy is survived by his loving wife of 31 years Catherine (Cass) Gormley. He is also survived by a sister Anne Dalessandro, five daughters and their spouses: Maureen (Terry) Piersol, Annmarie (Glenn) Douglas, Catherine (Richard) Thibeault, Bernadette Henderson, and Regina (Paul) Kuperferschmidt, four grandchildren...

Andrew J. Gormley, 93, of Jacksonville, FL passed away May 18, 2017. “Andy” Gormley left us peacefully at Community Hospice, Jacksonville. Born in Derry, Ireland on March 31, 1924 the son of the late Andrew and Bridget (Sharkey) Gormley. He is also preceded in death by his brother Hugh Gormley.

Andy is survived by his loving wife of 31 years Catherine (Cass) Gormley. He is also survived by a sister Anne Dalessandro, five daughters and their spouses: Maureen (Terry) Piersol, Annmarie (Glenn) Douglas, Catherine (Richard) Thibeault, Bernadette Henderson, and Regina (Paul) Kuperferschmidt, four grandchildren Matthew and Gregory Piersol, Abbey Thibeault, Samuel Henderson and one greatgrandchild Gavin Piersol. Also surviving are stepchildren Nanci (Richard)Weber, Teresa (Louis) Lefkowitz, and Steven (Ann) Obert.

Andy’s family immigrated to Philadelphia in the 1920’s and he was a devoted “Philadelphian” . He attended West Catholic H.S. and was a 1948 graduate of LaSalle College. He was proud of his service with the U.S. Army as a Sergeant Major of the 80th Tank Battalion, 8th Armor Division and its support of the Battle of the Bulge. He was a lifetime member of the VFW, charter member of the Willingboro VFW, and American Legion Post 285.

Andy’s career included 23 years at R.M. Hollingshead, Camden N.J. and he was an active member of the National Association of Credit Management and served as its President 1968-69. Andy was an early resident of the Willingboro community, later moving to Cinnaminson, where after retirement, Andy and Cass relocated to Edgewater FL and later Jacksonville FL.

A private service will be held to commemorate Andy’s life. He will be greatly missed.
