Donald Anthony Gilliamsen, 87 passed away August 11, 2017 in Jacksonville, FL. He was born on June 29, 1930 to Fredrick Gilliamsen and Kathryne (Pinto).

Donald was a LCDR in the United States Navy as a Naval Aviator for 29 years. In those 29 years, he served as a Hurricane Hunter, and in Operation Deep Freeze. For his service in Operation Deep Freeze, Gilliamsen Peak was named in his honor. He flew in the Korean War, served many tours in New Zealand, Iceland, Antarctica, and Newfoundland. He retired in 1975. Settling in Miami, FL he began a career with the Miami Dade County Public School System. He worked in Facilities Management and helped build schools. He retired once more after 20 years in the school system.

Donald is preceded in death by his wife, Raye Anita (2010). He is survived by his daughters, Kim (Neil) Fleming and Abby Gilliamsen of Jacksonville, and Lissa Nappier of Miami, FL; four grandchildren, Paul and Katelyn Nappier of Miami, FL, Kathryne and Virginia Fleming.

Visitation will be held from 5:00pm to 8:00pm on Wednesday, August 16 in Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home of Mandarin. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00am on Thursday, August 17 in Holy Family Catholic Church, 9800 Baymeadows Rd, Jacksonville, FL 32256, followed by interment in Jacksonville National Cemetery, 4083 Lannie Rd, Jacksonville, FL 32218.
