Edith Garrett Houriet, 85, went home to be with her Lord on Friday, March 27, 2015. She was born in Lockhart (Florala), Alabama, the daughter of James A. and Lela Garrett. Edith grew up in Port St. Joe, Florida, where she was a star basketball player. After graduation, she began a career as a secretary in the insurance field and continued until her marriage to her late husband Charles and their move to Jacksonville. A faithful Christian, she had served in local churches that included Forest Hills Baptist, Mandarin Baptist and was a charter...

Edith Garrett Houriet, 85, went home to be with her Lord on Friday, March 27, 2015. She was born in Lockhart (Florala), Alabama, the daughter of James A. and Lela Garrett. Edith grew up in Port St. Joe, Florida, where she was a star basketball player. After graduation, she began a career as a secretary in the insurance field and continued until her marriage to her late husband Charles and their move to Jacksonville. A faithful Christian, she had served in local churches that included Forest Hills Baptist, Mandarin Baptist and was a charter member of her current church Fruit Cove Baptist.



She is survived by her sons, Stephen and Douglas; brother S. D. Garrett of Howard Creek, FL and nieces, nephew, cousins and many friends.



A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 31 in Fruit Cove Baptist Church 501 SR 13 Jacksonville, FL 32259. A private burial will be held at Mandarin Cemetery.
